Edfu

We slept in and met the group at 9 am to take a horse carriage to the Edfu Temple. Visiting the temple was the only event scheduled because the majority of the day was spent cruising down the Nile to Luxor.

Edfu Temple was dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god, and is the best preserved ancient temple in Egypt, not because of the painted scenes or carvings but because of the intact structure. There were places where we would walk down a hallway and the hallway had a complete ceiling covering it. It really made me think about what it was like with the ancient Egyptians walking down the candlelit corridors passing colorful scenes all over the walls and ceilings. It was a spectacular temple.

On the way back to the boat we rode through the small town of Edfu. It was great being able to witness all the people out and about carrying on with their typical days, but it was also overwhelming trying to take in everything that was happening. As we were enjoying the sights and sounds, the carriage jumped and we all thought we just ran over something. It turns out a tire came off the wheel, so the operator had to get down and repair the tire. It took a little while and you could tell Tarek was getting a little nervous about missing the boat. If we weren't on the boat by a particular time, the boat would leave without us. Luckily, the operator fixed the tire and we were the last people back on the boat. We weren't in our rooms more then two minutes before the boat started down the river.

We spent the rest of the day relaxing. Allison started to come down with a cold, so she decided to get some much needed sleep. I spent the afternoon talking with Grace and Larry. We had another great dinner and headed to bed early.
